3 John 1:2

Peace to you my brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: 3 John 1:2

Verse Text: [3 John 1:2 KJV] Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

This was originally written to Gaius, a Christian brother but it is a wish we should all have for each other.

Soul:

First mention: נֶפֶשׁ nephesh, neh'-fesh; from H5314; properly, a breathing creature, i.e. animal of (abstractly) vitality; used very widely in a literal, accommodated or figurative sense (bodily or mental):—any, appetite, beast, body, breath, creature, × dead(-ly), desire, × (dis-) contented, × fish, ghost, greedy, he, heart(-y), (hath, × jeopardy of) life (× in jeopardy), lust, man, me, mind, mortally, one, own, person, pleasure, (her-, him-, my-, thy-) self, them (your) -selves, slay, soul, tablet, they, thing, (× she) will, × would have it.

Greek: ψυχή psychḗ, psoo-khay'; from G5594; breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstractly or concretely (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from G4151, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from G2222, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew H5315, H7307 and H2416):—heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.

In both Hebrew and Greek there is a sense of mind being associated with soul. The Hebrew mindset places the intellect or soul in the heart.

So, for Gaius his heart had prospered in the ways of Jesus. John’s wish for Gaius was that as he walks with Jesus that he has good health and all things he does prospers like all things prospered for Joseph.

May we all have this in our walk with Jesus.

Go forth and spread this good news.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Peace.
