Shalom brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:22
Verse Text: [1 Thessalonians 5:22 KJV] 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
I am using the KJV today because I think it says this better.
The NKJV says:
[1 Thessalonians 5:22 NKJV] 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
I believe we should even abstain from things that look bad.
[1 Corinthians 10:23-24 NKJV] 23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. 24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other's [well-being].
This is essentially what this verse is saying.
Barnes’ Notes: Abstain from all appearance of evil - Not only from evil itself, but from that which seems to be wrong. There are many things which are known to be wrong. They are positively forbidden by the laws of heaven, and the world concurs in the sentiment that they are wicked. But there are also many things about which there may be some reasonable doubt. It is not quite easy to determine in the case what is right or wrong.
If there is doubt in your heart then don’t do it even if it looks right.
Go forth and spread this good news.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
