Shalom brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: Ephesians 4:7-16
Title: Spiritual Gifts
Verse Text: [Ephesians 4:7-16 NKJV] 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. 8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men." 9 (Now this, "He ascended"--what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) 11 And He Himself gave some [to be] apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ-- 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
“what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?”, many say that he went down to sheol and ministered to the dead but this is a myth. It simply means that he was buried like so many of us will be some day.
Grace: charis - the unmerited favor of God toward man.
[Ephesians 4:7 NKJV] 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.
The gifts are the tasks assigned to us. We need his unmerited favor in order to accomplish them because we are imperfect fallen humans.
[Ephesians 4:11 NKJV] 11 And He Himself gave some [to be] apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
An apostle is a messenger. An angle, if you will. They deliver His message to us.
A prophet brings us back to His word; Torah.
An evangelist brings the good news; the gospel.
A teacher is one that teaches things concerning the things of God and the duties of man.
Then there are those of us that have been given the gift of all four.
And that last sentence gave me great pause. These gifts come through His Holy Spirit and, honestly, they can turn your life upside down but it is well worth the ride.
As I said, you need to let His Holy Spirit lead you through all of this. When I wrote the sentence about those having all four gifts, I realized that is what His Holy Spirit has been doing on my life through these daily commentaries. I pray very much that I don’t let the flesh into any of it.
We all need to pray as to what our gift is. Let His Holy Spirit lead you to it and through it.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
