The Greatest Gift

Shalom brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Title: The Greatest Gift

Verse Text: [1 Corinthians 13:1-13 NKJV] 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. 4 Love suffers long [and] is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. But whether [there are] prophecies, they will fail; whether [there are] tongues, they will cease; whether [there is] knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these [is] love.

Angel in the Greek is aggelos and in the Hebrew is mal'ak; it is not a heavenly host such as a cherubim or seraphim, these are human messengers that deliver a message from Yahshua.

The apostle is telling us that even though he may speak in a human language and he is delivering a message from Yahshua, if this message is not delivered with love then it means nothing. This also pertains to the delivery of prophesy, revelations, works, and even martyrdom. If none of this is done with the love of Yahshua then it is meaningless.

Many of the messages of scripture seem harsh to the world because the world is living by its own law but it can been seen throughout that the messengers in scripture deliver their message, prophesy, revelation, or works with the love of Yahshua behind them and in them.

The apostle then relates the attributes of love and if we examine them closely we will find that if the Holy Spirit of Yahshua is operating in us then we have these attributes as well.

Longsuffering: This is patience, an attribute I struggle with. I can tell you that it is hard to have patience when someone you task with something procrastinates; especially when the task really needs to be done and you cannot do it yourself. The only answer to this is prayer. Believe me, if you allow the Holy Spirit of Yahshua to work in you, longsuffering will happen.

Love has no envy. Envy is coveting something that belongs to someone else; be it their property, wealth, spouse, and so on. If you have love for that person then you do not covet what they have.

Love has no pride. Pride is a form of narcissism, putting yourself above all else. If you have the love of Yahshua then your desire is to serve others and there is no pride in that.

Love is not rude. Again, the world may perceive the message from scripture as rude but it is not.

Love is not cliquish. A clique is an exclusive group and a cliquish person forms exclusive groups around them and is hateful to those outside the group. You will find this behavior in many social clubs.

Love is not angered and thinks no evil. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with a righteous anger. When Yahshua chased the money changers out of the temple it can be said that He had a righteous anger. The anger that love has not is just a general anger; a hateful attitude towards all and this leads to evil thoughts.

Iniquity is unrighteousness; it is unrepentant sin. There is no love whatsoever in unrepentant sin. Take a long look at Cain as an example of iniquity embodied. The only thing he cared about was himself and he passed that down to his children.

Love rejoices in the truth and the truth is the word of Yahshua.

Love bears all things; that is, love guards and keeps His word and suffers through persecution and indignation because of that guarding and keeping. Love does not back down from the boldness of expressing His word.

Love believes all things; that is, has faith in His word.

Love hopes all things that are to be hoped for in His word; that is, waits for the promise of salvation while enduring persecution from the world.

Love does not fail and with the love of Yahshua we will not fail.

Looking at the last part of verse eight into verse nine, the apostle is saying that when our life is over any prophesies we have given, any words we may have said, and our knowledge will be gone but when Yahshua, that which is perfect, returns, those that walk in His love will receive His perfection.

Looking at verse eleven, before my awakening I was a child; even though I may have been an adult in the eyes of the world I was childish and had no understanding of His word. This does not mean that I have complete understanding now but I am on that road with the Holy Spirit of Yahshua and His love.

Right now I do see in a mirror dimly but He shines His light for me and shows me what I need to know and what I need to tell you. The most important thing He has shown me this day is love.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
