James 2:14-16

Peace to you my brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: [Jas 2:14-16 KJV] 14 What [doth it] profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be [ye] warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what [doth it] profit?

What is faith without works? Blind, empty, and dead faith!

One can say that they have faith in a chair but if they do not sit in that chair, do they really have faith in it? No, of course they do not.

Abraham had faith before he was circumcised, and he proved his faith by trusting God to the point that He would bring his son back from the dead. Rehab proved her faith by concealing the two spies.

In Hebrews 11 you will find a list of heroes and sufferers for faith; yet none of them is included for their good works. This is to say that the actions that demonstrate faith are not usually or necessarily good works in the ordinary sense. As a matter of fact, they may seem to be bad actions, or foolish, or crazy. For example, it may seem not rational to build a ship as Noah did particularly if you had never seen a flood or even rain. And then there are the soldiers that marched around Jericho for seven days to make the walls fall; but God commanded it and they had faith that if He said it would happen then it would.

It is not our responsibility to seek out works of faith. But as we walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7), and live by faith (Romans 1:17), God will give us opportunities to perform acts of faith. David does not seek a bear to slay. The gold does not seek the furnace (1 Peter 1:7).

But still, we are to feed the poor, take care of the sick, and take care of widows and the fatherless children. These are good works and commanded by God.

We all have a job.

[Matthew 28:18-20 KJV] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

All of the disciples of Jesus are to spread His word and the gospel.

This is the gospel of Jesus: [1 Corinthians 15:1-6 KJV] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

Go forth and spread this good news.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Peace.
