Revelation 3:20

Peace to you my brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: [Revelation 3:20 KJV] Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

What is this saying? It is saying the same thing as this:

[1 John 4:19 KJV] We love him, because he first loved us.

He loved us first; He chose us.

[Ephesians 1:5 KJV] Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

And then six verses later:

[Ephesians 1:11 KJV] In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

If we add in Romans 9, much of John 6, Jesus’ high priestly prayer in John 17, and this:

[Acts 13:48 KJV] And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

we see a pattern of Him choosing us.

We need to know that He has chosen us for a purpose. He knows the end from the beginning so He knows that we will fulfill that purpose.

There are no accidents and no coincidence.

He has chosen sinners.

[Romans 5:8 KJV] But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

[1 Peter 3:18 KJV] For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Our Lord selects weak clay pots and sends them to the ends of the earth to preach the good news of his rescue mission in Christ.

[Romans 10:14 KJV] How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

He gives fallen men the unconscionable privilege of proclaiming his sin-slaying, death-defeating gospel.

God made us for His glory.

[Isaiah 42:8 KJV] I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

[Romans 8:31-39 KJV] What shall we then say to these things? If God [be] for us, who [can be] against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? [It is] God that justifieth. Who [is] he that condemneth? [It is] Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We know that He chose us so choose Him back. By choosing Him back we get salvation.

John Calvin: For there is not a more effectual means of building up faith than the giving our open ears to the election of God, which the Holy Spirit seals upon our heart while we hear, showing us that it stands in the eternal and immutable goodwill of God toward us; and that, therefore, it cannot be moved or altered by any storms of the world, by any assaults of Satan, by any changes, by any fluctuations or weaknesses of the flesh. For our salvation is then sure to us, when we find the cause of it in the breast of God.

Knowing that He chose me humbles me. Thanksgiving is on my lips because God has been working in my life and I now realize that He did it all and I did nothing. My life could have been radically different, but because of his grace, it is not. God has been good to me, has suffered long with me, and I must extend the same grace to others.

He chose me, and I have chosen Him back. I opened the door and He sups with me.

Go forth and spread this good news.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Peace.
