Zechariah 7:9

Peace to you my brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: Zechariah 7:9

Verse Text: [Zechariah 7:9 NKJV] 9 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother.

Justice: מִשְׁפָּט mishpâṭ, mish-pawt'; from H8199; properly, a verdict (favorable or unfavorable) pronounced judicially, especially a sentence or formal decree (human or (participant's) divine law, individual or collective), including the act, the place, the suit, the crime, and the penalty; abstractly, justice, including a participant's right or privilege (statutory or customary), or even a style:— adversary, ceremony, charge, × crime, custom, desert, determination, discretion, disposing, due, fashion, form, to be judged, judgment, just(-ice, -ly), (manner of) law(-ful), manner, measure, (due) order, ordinance, right, sentence, usest, × worthy, wrong.

Executing true justice is determining what is right or wrong by God’s law. It is judgement.

[Matthew 7:1 NKJV] 1 "Judge not, that you be not judged.

[Luke 6:37 NKJV] 37 "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

People see these verses and say that is are not to judge at all but that is not what Jesus meant. He meant that we are not to judge incorrectly or else we would be judged as we were judging. We should always judge by His law and use it as correction. Remember:

[2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV] 16 All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

We cannot correct if we do not judge by His law.

Mercy: חֶסֶד cheçed, kheh'-sed; from H2616; kindness; by implication (towards God) piety; rarely (by opposition) reproof, or (subjectively) beauty:—favour, good deed(-liness, -ness), kindly, (loving-) kindness, merciful (kindness), mercy, pity, reproach, wicked thing.

Mercy is given where punishment is deserved. But for God’s mercy all mankind would be dead.

Compassion: empathy.

To feel compassion for a person we must put ourselves in their shoes. This is not an easy thing to do but Jesus did the ultimate act of compassion by taking on the flesh and frailties of humanity. Can we do less for our brother and sister?

Mercy and compassion are the heart of judgement. We must execute all three to bring our brothers and sisters to God.

Go forth and spread this good news.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Peace.
