Matthew 4:8-11

Peace to you my brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: Matthew 4:8-11

Verse Text: [Mat 4:8-11 KJV] Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Devil: διάβολος diábolos, dee-ab'-ol-os; from G1225; a traducer; specially, Satan (compare H7854):—false accuser, devil, slanderer.

We do not see the term devil until the New testament. It means false accuser.

Satan: שָׂטָן sâṭân, saw-tawn'; from H7853; an opponent; especially (with the article prefixed) Satan, the arch-enemy of good:—adversary, Satan, withstand.

Satan, as ha satan, appears throughout the Bible and is an adversary.

Kingdom: βασιλεία basileía, bas-il-i'-ah; from G935; properly, royalty, i.e. (abstractly) rule, or (concretely) a realm (literally or figuratively):—kingdom, + reign.

Kingdom is referring to a dominion.

World: κόσμος kósmos, kos'-mos; probably from the base of G2865; orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration; by implication, the world (in a wide or narrow sense, including its inhabitants, literally or figuratively (morally)):—adorning, world.

In this case world is referring to all that one could see from the vantage point.

In Matthew 4:8-11 Jesus was taken to a high place by a deceptive adversary and shown all that He could see. Jesus was told that if He would give homage to the deceiver then He would be given all that He sees.

There are many today that carry this same message; “Hey, I have all this power and it can be yours too”. I am sure you have heard this from many, especially the get rich quick types.

[Exo 20:2-3 KJV] I [am] the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This is what we must keep in mind when we are tempted like Jesus was.

Go forth and spread this good news.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Peace.
