Shalom brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
Verse Text: [2 Corinthians 10:3-6 NKJV] 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
Carnal applies to the flesh. We do not conduct our daily battles against those opposed to Yahshua through our flesh but through His word.
Our battle is not just with those opposed to Yahshua but with our own thoughts as well.
[Mark 7:20 NKJV] 20 And He said, "What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.
[Matthew 15:19 NKJV] 19 "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.
[Matthew 5:28 NKJV] 28 "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
[Matthew 5:21-22 NKJV] 21 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' 22 "But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire.
[James 1:14-15 NKJV] 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
These are all about thoughts. In some cases, you may see heart in the verse because in the Hebrew mindset the heart was the root of thought in humans.
We must not let our thoughts take control of ourselves. Our thoughts can carry us into sin.
Spock: Really, Dr. McCoy. You must learn to govern your passions. They will be your undoing.
[1 Thessalonians 4:3-6 NKJV] 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord [is] the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.
It is interesting that the science fiction of Star Trek gives good advice on controlling our passions, our thoughts. We well know that sexual immorality and lust are not the only bad things that spring from our passions.
[Matthew 15:17-20 NKJV] 17 "Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18 "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 "These are [the things] which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man."
And this brings us back to our verse for today. Through prayer and the action of His holy Spirit our passions can be placed under control. We do not need to be devoid of emotion as the Vulcans of Star Trek but we need to be under control.
Go forth and spread this good news.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
