Shalom brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: Deuteronomy 10:12-13
Title: To Love and Serve
Verse Text: [Deuteronomy 10:12-13 NKJV] 12 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 "[and] to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good?
Fear is yare' in Hebrew.
I saw an article that put it this way, “You can say it means fearful or terrible but in the sense that a husband who really loves his wife will not cheat on her, not because he fears her wrath, but because he fears he could not live with himself if he hurt her in any way.”
From this I can say that I get it and I hope you do as well.
If we walk in His ways; that is by the commandments He gave us in scripture, and if we love and serve Him with all our heart and soul; that is, with our entire being; all that we are, then we should have no fear of hurting Him.
OK, so how can we hurt God? By disobeying Him. When growing up I know that I disobeyed my parents and they were disappointed in me but deep down they were hurt by my actions. Compound that millions of times with God and a very disobedient and fallen set of children called humanity.
We serve Him by keeping His commandments and spreading the good news, the gospel, to the four corners of the earth.
[1 Corinthians 15:1-5 NKJV] 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.
Simply put, the gospel is that Yahshua died for our sin according to scripture so that we may have the hope of eternal life and that if we keep His commandments in love, repent of our sin, and love and serve Him then we will be assured of that eternal life with Him.
Fear Him, Love Him, walk in His ways; the ways He commands us to walk, and serve Him by spreading His gospel.
[Isaiah 55:8 NKJV] 8 "For My thoughts [are] not your thoughts, Nor [are] your ways My ways," says the LORD.
An now I understand this. Humans in sin do not think as He does and they are not walking in His ways, the way He commanded us to walk in scripture.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
