No Other Doctrine

Shalom brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: 1 Timothy 1:3-11

Title: No Other Doctrine

Verse Text: [1 Timothy 1:3-11 NKJV] 3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia--remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. 5 Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, [from] a good conscience, and [from] sincere faith, 6 from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm. 8 But we know that the law [is] good if one uses it lawfully, 9 knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for [the] lawless and insubordinate, for [the] ungodly and for sinners, for [the] unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.

The title for this, No Other Doctrine, is very appropriate for His commandments, word, law, should be our only doctrine.

As the apostle indicated, we are to not give heed; that is, we are to ignore fables and endless genealogies. In regard to endless genealogies, it does not matter if we are an Israelite or not because if we walk with Yahshua then we are grafted in so we do not need to prove our linage. As to fables, there are many extrabiblical books that are gaining fame amongst those that do not regard scripture; these, among other things, are fables; that is, in this case, concocted stories constructed to seem like scripture.

In verse five the apostle says that the purpose of the commandment, which should be read as law or Torah, is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith. When we live by Torah in love, we walk toward obtaining a pure heart, good conscience, and sincere faith. We cannot fully realize these things until our resurrection; however, living by Torah in love and walking with Yahshua and letting His Holy Spirit be your guide will point you in the right direction.

Putting together verses five, six, and seven, the apostle is telling us that there are those that have turned away from Torah but still portray themselves to be teachers of it. These people now engage in idle talk mostly because they have dived into the fables and begun to accept them as scripture when they should not be. These people have become false teachers and should be ignored.

Now, what does the apostle mean by using the law lawfully? Simply put, do not use it as a judgment tool because that is not our job. Now, some will say that people use the law to rebuke and that is judgement. Note this:

[2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV] 16 All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The apostle is saying scripture is used for these things, not the law. Scripture points us to the application of the law and for recognition of what things are lawful and not.

When one rebukes one should not be making a judgment; as I indicated, that is not our job. The only one to apply the law as a judgement tool is Yahshua and those He has designated in the millennial kingdom.

In verses nine through eleven the apostle tells us that the law is not for the righteous. Simply put the righteous have the law written on their hearts. I can tell you that they slip from time to time, but the Holy Spirit always convicts their hearts and returns them to Torah.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
