Shalom brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: Exodus 20:13
Title: Murder
Verse Text: [Exodus 20:13 NKJV] 13 "You shall not murder.
In Hebrew this entire verse is represented with only one word: ratsach.
Humanity has inserted the word murder; that is, the illegal killing of another human being with malice.
If we look at the Hebrew word ratsach we will find it 47 times in 40 verses and it can mean anything from an accidental killing to premeditated murder and it is based on the context in which it us used.
So, what did Yahshua mean when He used it in Exodus 20:13? His Holy Spirit leads me to the conclusion that murder is the correct usage; that is, the killing of a human with malice.
What is the punishment?
[Leviticus 24:17 NKJV] 17 'Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death.
And here man is adam; mankind.
There are several places that indicate that this method is stoning; however, we are not told how that is to be done.
We are told that there must be a trial in which there are two or more witnesses presided over by an elder or judge. The elder or judge is an elder of the church which was a Levitical priest. With the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD that method of trial cannot be performed by Israel because the Levitical priesthood no longer exists.
So, what about today? The murderer is still under a death sentence and there are always at least two witnesses; the Father and the Son; who see everything. The punishment will be handed out at the White Throne by our High Priest.
Do we have the right of execution? Obviously not by Torah because we don’t have a Levitical priesthood. I will let you determine the answer for yourself.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
