Shalom brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: Hebrews 7:25
Title: Intercession
Verse Text: [Hebrews 7:25 NKJV] 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
The key word here is intercession. Because of its association with prayer in the new testament it has taken on the meaning of prayer. Unfortunately, because of this assumed definition, people have this picture in their mind that Yahshua is in heaven praying for us. While that is part of it, that is not the whole of it.
[Matthew 26:65 NKJV] 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!
[Leviticus 21:10 NKJV] 10 '[He who is] the high priest among his brethren, on whose head the anointing oil was poured and who is consecrated to wear the garments, shall not uncover his head nor tear his clothes;
When Caiaphas tore his robes he abdicated his role of high priest and that role passed to Yahshua. He is our high priest in heaven and does the duties of the high priest for us; that is, He intercedes for us.
Each day the priests took steps to publicly and ceremonially go to God on behalf of the people with incense, a sweet aroma before the Lord. People brought their sacrifices—goats, sheep, and doves—to the priests to be offered. Nobody else could do these tasks because they were the specific ministry of priests as given by God. The priests acted in obedience and led the people in remembrance and acknowledgement of both their own sin and God’s holiness. They did precisely as God commanded, no more and no less, all on behalf of the people.
Performing something on behalf of someone is intercession for them. Yahshua is our high priest and He intercedes for us.
[Revelation 8:3-4 NKJV] 3 Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer [it] with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand.
The “He” in the second sentence of verse three is Yahshua. He is given the incense of our prayers and intercedes for us to burn it on the alter in heaven.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
