Approved and Disapproved Workers

Shalom brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: 2 Timothy 2:14-26

Title: Approved and Disapproved Workers

Verse Text: [2 Timothy 2:14-26 NKJV] 14 Remind [them] of these things, charging [them] before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane [and] idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity." 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and [that] they may come to their senses [and escape] the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to [do] his will.

The apostle opens by telling us to not work for our words of Him; these words should not come from us but from His Holy Spirit. Our words only taint the message and can be damaging to the hearer.

The term “rightly dividing the word of truth” in verse fifteen is used by so many in the pulpit and the Torah or Hebrew Roots movement these days. They use it to indicate that they are rightly dividing the word of truth and that you should following their slant on it. They should be letting His Holy Spirit rightly divide the word of truth for them.

The apostle speaks of idle babblings in verse sixteen and there are so many these days. I don’t need to tell you as those living by Torah and being led by His Holy Spirit know. I am not being pressed to list them now. But, as the apostle indicates in verse seventeen, they do spread like a cancer through the body of Yahshua, His church.

We see the mention of Hymenaeus and Philetus in verse seventeen. Verse eighteen says that heir sin was, “saying that the resurrection is already past”. What does this mean?

[2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 NKJV] 1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for [that Day will not come] unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

These two men were teaching that Yahshua had already returned.

[2 Timothy 2:19 NKJV] 19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

Saying that I believe is just not enough.  I can believe in a chair but if I do not sit in it then my belief is just knowledge in my head. I must sit in that chair to know it fully. I must set aside my sin through repentance and live my life by Torah. My Savior lived by Torah and I must follow His example. I must sit in His chair.

[2 Timothy 2:20-21 NKJV] 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.

I live in a great house; the house of Yahshua and there are many that live in it with me; however, there are some that say that they live by Torah as He did but do not completely; these are the wood and clay vessels meant for dishonor by their own actions or inactions. In verse twenty-one the apostle indicates that we should cleanse ourselves from them; that is, not be in fellowship with them.

In verse twenty-two we are instructed to flee all youthful lusts. You may consider youthful lusts to be those that you had as a child, but I believe that it is more than that. Before my awakening in Yahshua I could be considered a child and I did have many lusts then. I am still afflicted by some and am fleeing from them to my Savior and letting His Holy Spirit guide me away.

[2 Timothy 2:23 NKJV] 23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

Basically, don’t argue with fools because fools are ignorant of His word. Arguing with a fool is like trying to put a silk suit on a pig; it frustrates you and makes the pig angry.

[2 Timothy 2:24-26 NKJV] 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and [that] they may come to their senses [and escape] the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to [do] his will.

But that does not mean that if we do see error we should not attempt to correct it because the person, if they are not a fool, may recognize the error and come to repentance.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
