The Sabbath

Shalom brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: Exodus 20:8

Title: The Sabbath

Verse Text: [Exodus 20:8 NKJV] 8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

In context: [Exodus 20:8-11 NKJV] 8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day [is] the Sabbath of the LORD your God. [In it] you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who [is] within your gates. 11 For [in] six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that [is] in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

The word Sabbath appears 135 times in 113 verses in the NKJV. It first appears in Exodus; however, when you understand that the Sabbath is the seventh day then it is also in Genesis.

In the context of today’s verse, the Sabbath is the day on which God rested and commanded us to rest. It is not just any seventh day, it is the seventh day of the week; Saturday.

So, what do we do on the Sabbath? Enjoy time with Jesus. I know that it is difficult because today’s society demands that we “do” so many things but many of these things can wait a day.

We are told to do no work on the Sabbath. Men have been struggling with the definition or work since the beginning. When it comes down to it, it is your occupation. What is it that you do to earn money or to support yourself or your family?

You are not to work on the Sabbath and you are not to cause others to work also.

The best way to handle this is through prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit of Jesus.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.

Please share this with others.
