Peace to you my brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: [Ephesians 4:1-32 KJV] 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the
Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another
in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4
[There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your
calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who
[is] above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is
given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8 Wherefore he
saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts
unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first
into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that
ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he
gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some,
pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the
ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the
unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man,
unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we
[henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with
every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning craftiness,
whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may
grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ: 16 From whom
the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint
supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh
increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. 17 This I say
therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other
Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding
darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in
them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have
given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with
greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have
heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye
put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt
according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness
and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with
his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not:
let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil. 28
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with [his]
hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good
to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And
grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil
speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to
another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake
hath forgiven you.
Bible dice gave me Ephesians 4:7, 29 but the Holy Spirit said Ephesians 4:1-32;
the whole of it. This is long but worth your time.
This letter was written to the church at Ephesus between the resurrection of
Jesus and the destruction of the temple in 70 AD. It was written to believers.
[Ephesians 4:1-3 KJV] 1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that
ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness
and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
All of the elect are prisoners of Jesus; we have been taken captive and we
serve Him. I am personally humbled that He has taken me captive.
His Holy Spirit continues to hold me captive, keeping me from sin and
convicting me if I do.
[Ephesians 4:4-6 KJV] 4 [There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are
called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One
God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.
Baptism means immersion and all of the elect are immersed in His Holy Spirit.
His Holy Spirit dwells in us all. We have received His Holy Spirit when God
revealed Himself to us much like He revealed Himself to Paul.
[Ephesians 4:7 KJV] 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the
measure of the gift of Christ.
The grace the elect has been given is irresistible. But why should we want to
resist it? It is part of our salvation.
[Ephesians 4:8 KJV] 8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led
captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
Before our salvation we were in captivity to sin and now we have been captured
by Jesus into salvation.
[Ephesians 4:9-10 KJV] 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also
descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the
same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all
things.)
The parenthesis means that this is not in all the manuscripts. But so, we know
that He was buried and rose again and ascended into heaven. This was done to
fulfill all the prophesies of His coming and ascension.
[Ephesians 4:11-16 KJV] 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and
some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the
saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son
of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of
Christ: 14 That we [henceforth] be no more children, tossed to and fro, and
carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, [and] cunning
craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in
love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ: 16
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which
every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of
every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
These are the gifts we have been given. Apostles are direct witnesses of Jesus
and prophets receive prophesy. I am not
sure these two exist after 70 AD. An evangelist is a preacher of the gospel and
if you take up the task, He has given the elect then you are an evangelist. A
pastor is a leader; a shepherd, and if you have been given a congregation then
you are a pastor. Finally, we have teachers; those that give instruction on
scripture. Pastors are evangelists and may be teachers. Teachers are
evangelists and may be pastors.
[Ephesians 4:17-19 KJV] 17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that
ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through
the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who
being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all
uncleanness with greediness.
This is the walk of the world outside of salvation. This the elect shall not
do.
[Ephesians 4:20-24 KJV] 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that
ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is
corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of
your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in
righteousness and true holiness.
Have you heard Him? Has He revealed Himself to you? If so, put aside the total
depravity of the carnal person and walk in His Holy Spirit. Those to whom He
has revealed Himself will know it.
[Ephesians 4:25 KJV] 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth
with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
Members of what? His church. All of the elect are members.
[Ephesians 4:26-27 KJV] 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down
upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil.
We can have righteous anger; yet, do not let it turn you away. Pray for those
that caused it and forgive them.
The devil here is not some fallen angel hellbent on the destruction of
humanity; it is an adversary, a sinner not in His church. Man is adversarial to
man.
[Ephesians 4:28-32 KJV] 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him
labour, working with [his] hands the thing which is good, that he may have to
give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your
mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister
grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye
are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and
anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as
God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
These are gifts given us by His Holy Spirit that we have been baptized by;
immersed in. He turns us from the depravity we had before His revelation.
We all have a job.
[Matthew 28:18-20 KJV] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is
given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
All of the disciples of Jesus are to spread His word and the gospel.
This is the gospel:
[1 Corinthians 15:1-6 KJV] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel
which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you,
unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that
which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the
scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day
according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the
twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom
the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
[Acts 2:22-24 KJV] 22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a
man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did
by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered
by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by
wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having
loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden
of it.
Go forth and spread this good news.
I pray that God has revealed Himself to you and that you have salvation.
Remember, God is sovereign. That means that he controls everything.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Peace.
