2 Timothy 3:1-5

Peace to you my brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: [2 Timothy 3:1-5 KJV] 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

This letter was written to Timothy when Timothy had been ministering to the church at Ephesus for four years. It was in the timeframe between the resurrection and the destruction of the temple in 70 AD. It probably was before or in the beginning of Nero’s reign and definitely before the persecution of Christians began in earnest.

This was a depiction of what was to happen in Israel before the Roman siege began. It was a warning to Christians; a sign of impending peril; a warning to prepare to flee.

It has applications to us today and we Christians need to take note of it. These are words for us now. Look at what is happening in today’s society.

Men being lovers of their own selves is not homosexuality, it is pride. We have many boasters in politics and behind the pulpit saying that they can fix society; only God can do that.

Children disobey their parents and that is mostly the fault of a society that does not allow parents corporal punishment. Our society does not allow parents to spank their children and parents are afraid that if they do then they will go to jail. Society is literally allowing children to get away with murder. As a result, many of these children remain in total depravity and make themselves their god.

But still, there are those that profess Christianity but are not. They have never received the gospel even though they may have said a prayer. They wouldn’t know the gospel if they fell over it; God has not revealed Himself to them and yet they call themselves Christians.

[2 Timothy 3:7-8 KJV] 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8  Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

There are those that drink of the knowledge of man and have no knowledge of God. These are the ones in charge of the indoctrination centers we call public schools and those that run our colleges and universities. They do not allow God to darken their door.

[2 Timothy 3:10-12 KJV] 10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, 11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of [them] all the Lord delivered me. 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

The elect know who God is and who they are. The elect may not be persecuted yet but it will come. There are subtle persecutions happening now.

[2 Timothy 3:13-14 KJV] 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned [them];

Even though there are evil people in charge we should not give up the faith.

[2 Timothy 3:15-17 KJV] 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

We have his word and faith by grace. That is what we need.

So, it sounds awfully bleak. We have those practicing social Marxism, critical race theory, and critical sex theory in charge. They are destroying churches from the inside and pushing an atheistic agenda.

[Psalm 110:1 KJV] 1 [[A Psalm of David.]] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

[Matthew 28:18 KJV] 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

We are His church. He is using His Holy Spirit through His church to make His enemies His footstool.

[Daniel 2:34-35 KJV] 34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet [that were] of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. 35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

Christianity is he stone that became a mountain.

At the beginning I stated that in the first century this was a warning for Christians to flee Israel but for us this a call to action. There are many futurists that feel that they are going to get raptured out soon, so they sit on their hands and do nothing; this is the wrong approach. Now is the time to find godly men and women and make them leaders in the community and politics.

Spread this message far and wide.

We all have a job.

[Matthew 28:18-20 KJV] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

All of the disciples of Jesus are to spread His word and the gospel.

This is the gospel:

[1 Corinthians 15:1-6 KJV] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

[Acts 2:22-24 KJV] 22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

Go forth and spread this good news.

I pray that God has revealed Himself to you and that you have salvation.

Remember, God is sovereign. That means that he controls everything.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Peace.
