Peace to you my brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: [Exodus 20:8-11 KJV] 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep
it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh
day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work,
thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor
thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: 11 For [in] six days
the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested
the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
I find it interesting that this one pops up on the sabbath. God does have a
sense of irony.
Work: מְלָאכָה mᵉlâʼkâh, mel-aw-kaw'; from the same as H4397; properly,
deputyship, i.e. ministry; generally, employment (never servile) or work
(abstractly or concretely); also property (as the result of labor):—business,
cattle, industrious, occupation, ( -pied), officer, thing (made), use, (manner
of) work((-man), -manship).
Please notice that it says employment but adds the parenthetical never servile.
The Hebrew for work did not cover servants but God did in verse ten. Simply
put, we are not to do anything for gain on the sabbath; it is to be dedicated
to rest and God.
Holy: קָדַשׁ qâdash, kaw-dash'; a primitive root; to be (causatively, make,
pronounce or observe as) clean (ceremonially or morally):—appoint, bid,
consecrate, dedicate, defile, hallow, (be, keep) holy(-er, place), keep,
prepare, proclaim, purify, sanctify(-ied one, self), × wholly.
Keeping something holy is setting it apart from other things. Keeping the
sabbath day holy is to set it apart from the other six days as something
special.
[Mark 2:27-28 KJV] 27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and
not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the
sabbath.
In other words, the sabbath was given to us from the beginning; it is a very
special day.
The sabbath has always been the seventh day and the seventh day on the modern
calendar is Saturday. Now, I know that this will open up the whole Sunday argument,
but I am not going to debate it. God has placed the sabbath as the seventh day
in the ten commandments and for me that is final.
I understand that there are mitigating circumstances for first responders and
God has shown us in scripture that He recognizes such things as well.
“I have to work on Saturday to feed my family”, is another argument. If you
truly follow Jesus and are among the elect, then no you do not. I am not
telling you to quit your job, but I am telling you to seek another one that
will let you be off on Saturday.
We all have a job.
[Matthew 28:18-20 KJV] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is
given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
All of the disciples of Jesus are to spread His word and the gospel.
This is the gospel:
[1 Corinthians 15:1-6 KJV] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel
which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you,
unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that
which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the
scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day
according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the
twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom
the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
[Acts 2:22-24 KJV] 22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a
man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did
by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered
by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by
wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having
loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden
of it.
Go forth and spread this good news.
I pray that God has revealed Himself to you and that you have salvation.
Remember, God is sovereign. That means that he controls everything.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Peace.
