Peace to you my brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: [Joshua 1:16 KJV] And they answered Joshua, saying, All
that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will
go.
Joshua was a type of Christ. How so, you may ask.
William Nicholson, an independent British minister of the 1800’s did a sermon
on this in 1862. It may be found at: https://www.gracegems.org/Nicholson/joshua_a_type_of_christ.htm.
Here are the highlights.
Joshua was a type of Christ in:
1. In his divine appointment: [Joshua 1:1-2 KJV] Now after the death of Moses
the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the
son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore
arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do
give to them, [even] to the children of Israel.
2. In his name: In Hebrew both Joshua and Jesus mean salvation. As a matter of
fact, Joshua may be a better pronunciation in English.
3. The servant and successor of Moses. Joshua was the servant of Moses and this
prepared him to become his successor. Just so, Jesus was the servant of the law
(Moses) before He became its successor as our savior.
4. In his qualifications and consecration to office. Just as the call of Joshua
was divinely announced to Moses and to Joshua himself, so it was made known of
Jesus at His baptism.
5. Joshua was the commander and leader of his people. Just as Jesus is our
commander and leader (king), so was Joshua the commander and leader of his
people.
6. Joshua conducted the people through the Jordan. The Jordan represents death
and as Joshua conducted his people across that river, Jesus conducts us through
death into life.
And there are more.
Returning to our verse:
[Joshua 1:16 KJV] And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us
we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.
Since Joshua is a type of Christ, we should answer Jesus just as Israel answered
Joshua: All that You command, we will do and wherever You send us, we will go.
We all have a job.
[Matthew 28:18-20 KJV] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is
given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
All of the disciples of Jesus are to spread His word and the gospel.
This is the gospel of Jesus: [1 Corinthians 15:1-6 KJV] Moreover, brethren, I
declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have
received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in
memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I
delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ
died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that
he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen
of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred
brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some
are fallen asleep.
Go forth and spread this good news.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Peace.
