Ephesians 2:4-5

Peace to you my brothers and sisters.

Some of this was taken and modified from the article “How Total Depravity Changed My Life” by Tim Geiger.

Today’s Bible Verse: [Ephesians 2:4-5 KJV] But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

We were dead in sins and yet He loves us. There is absolutely nothing we can do to gain his love.

Even if we are outwardly conforming to the law; inwardly, we are still totally depraved; that is, totally in sin; totally dead and there is nothing we can do to move from that depravity.

God loves us, and through no work of our own, except the faith He Himself grants us as a gift, He makes us alive together with Jesus. This is grace, only grace.

The reality of total depravity is that it is “total.” Even in repentance, the brokenness of everything in us and about us can lead to times of fear and despair. Victory has been secured, but the war wages on. The enemy will fight until the bitter end.

The comfort is in knowing that though we are thoroughly corrupted and hopelessly lost, Jesus has chosen to love us and rescue us. He completely paid off all our reckless debt—even the debt we continue to accrue through our faltering love for Him. On top of it all, He delights in making us His own forever.

We all have a job.

[Matthew 28:18-20 KJV] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

All of the disciples of Jesus are to spread His word and the gospel.

This is the gospel: [1 Corinthians 15:1-6 KJV] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

Go forth and spread this good news.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Peace.
