Shalom brothers and sisters.
Today’s Bible Verse: Genesis 1:1-5
Title: Day 1
Verse Text: [Genesis 1:1-5 NKJV] 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that [it was] good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
His Holy Spirit is leading me to a line by line teaching on this.
[Genesis 1:1 NKJV] 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Beginning of what? Time, the universe, all things. This line tells us what He did.
[Genesis 1:2 NKJV] 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
This is what it was like before He created all things.
Without form is tohuw and void is bohuw. Taken together it means a barren emptiness; nothing. So, before God created everything there was nothing.
[Genesis 1:3 NKJV] 3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
The first act of creation was light. All begins with light; the light of God. God caused matter to explode into being and with any explosion comes light but in the case of this explosion, light came first.
[Genesis 1:4 NKJV] 4 And God saw the light, that [it was] good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
It is my supposition that God blessed the light, called it good, because now life could be sustained.
This is a time before the fall so everything is perfect. The division of light and darkness is perfect; equal. Equal light and equal darkness is an equinox. The first day had an equinox.
[Genesis 1:5 NKJV] 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
This is the first mention in the Bible of day so the definition of day is light. The day begins with light and then it is followed by evening, `ereb; or dusk. Dusk becomes darkness or night and that is followed by morning; boqer; dawn, that period when the light of the sun is about to break forward; that is, we do not see the sun but we see the beginning of it’s light.
Taken line by line I do not see a gap theory and I definitely see the day beginning with light.
To recap, verse one gives us an overview of what happened; in other words, God tells us what He was going to do. Verse two tells us of the state of things before God created anything. Verse three describes God’s first act in creation; the creation of light. Verse four tells us that He blessed the light and my supposition is that He blessed it because life could now be sustained when created. Verse four also tells us that God divided the light from the darkness and an equal division is an equinox. Verse five defines day as light and night as darkness and gives us the sequence of the end of the day.
This is how His Holy spirit has led me to see it. It is not up for debate.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.
