The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

Shalom brothers and sisters.

Today’s Bible Verse: Matthew 18:21-35

Title: The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

Verse Text: [Matthew 18:21-35 NKJV] 21 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" 22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23 "Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 "And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 "But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26 "The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, 'Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.' 27 "Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 "But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took [him] by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!' 29 "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.' 30 "And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 "So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 "Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 'Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?' 34 "And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 "So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses."

[Matthew 18:27 NKJV] 27 "Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.

And, if we stop at that point we could say, “See that servant was saved just as we are”. And, at that point, that servant is saved; however, if we read on, we find that the servant was cruel to his fellow servant and did not treat him as he would treat himself. When his master found out about it, the servant received the full punishment. So, it is fair to say that the servant was once saved but not always saved.

There are many that come to Jesus, repent, ask for forgiveness, and, for a time, walk His path; however, they fall away and do not come back. At one point, if they had died then, they may have had salvation; however, because they were not vigilant, they allowed themselves to fall away and may have lost that salvation. I say may have here because we do not know how far the Mercy and Grace of Jesus extends and saying that they definitely lost their salvation would be a judgement that I am not qualified to make.

[2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV] 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

We must finish the race.

[1 Corinthians 9:24 NKJV] 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain [it].

[Matthew 10:22 NKJV] 22 "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

We must endure to the end of our race and receive the prize. Endure means that we walk Torah in love and faith and the prize is salvation. Do not fall away. Be vigilant.

I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk Torah-ly. Shalom.

Please share this with others.
