Today’s Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:1-7
Title: The Greatest Gift
Verse Text: [1 Corinthians 13:1-7 NKJV] 1 Though I speak with the tongues of
men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a
clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all
mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could
remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my
goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, but have not
love, it profits me nothing. 4 Love suffers long [and] is kind; love does not
envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely,
does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in
iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
Love in Greek is agapē and in Hebrew it is 'ahab. In both cases it is an
intimate love; many say it is an unconditional love.
We fallen humans tend to put conditions on things but look at what these verses
say about love.
It is longsuffering; that is, it is very patient. It will wait for as long as
it takes just as we must be patient with the return of Jesus; it will happen
when He says it will if you watch the signs. His return is not imminent, it is
on His schedule, but we must be prepared by watching as if it were imminent.
Love has no envy or pride. It does not boast of itself. It is not rude or
cliquish (seek its own). It is not easily angered or plots evil against others.
It does not rejoice in the unrepentant sin of others (iniquity) but rejoices in
the word of God (truth).
Love protects His word (bears all things), has faith in His word (believes and
hopes all things), and love endures till the end (endures all things).
And in verse eight the apostle said, love never fails. It never fails in all of
these things. To know these definitions of love is to know Jesus and to walk these
definitions of love is to walk in the path of Jesus.
I hope this has been a blessing to you. May the rest of your day be blessed. Walk
Torah-ly. Shalom.
